Creating a Barcelona Chair Cushion Style for a Leather Pouf

 

The inspiration behind the design of this pouf is the Barcelona chair by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. This chair was designed for the 1929 Barcelona World’s Fair in Spain. The chair also includes a footstool. You would think they are just straight squares that you cut out and then stitch together with a trim in between. But nothing is what it seems. Strangely enough, we have never reupholstered a “real” Barcelona chair or ottoman in our workshop, not even seen it up close. Sometimes that’s just how it goes. That is why we had to study ourselves how we would approach this model. You can see that in the video below.
